If you've been paying attention recently, you may noticed that your kid's Scholastic flyer is full of dystopian books about the end of the world. When the heck did this happen? Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel sit down with YA expert, Amy Sturgis to look at the phenomenon of dystopian kids fiction. Together they realize that it's not that new a trend, giving you the listener some favourite books from the past 50 or so years. In addition, Deanna manages to link Twilight to teen rebellion and Gary proves that he is on to something. Iron Man 3, the first film of MARVEL: Phase Two is out! And not only does it bring back Tony, Pepper and the gang, it has started a huge nerd kerfuffle not seen since, well, the last big super-hero movie! With the fandom arguing about SPOILER, host Gary Mitchel asked The Phantom Troublemaker (http://www.needlessthingssite.com) and Tegan Hendrickson (http://www.justtegan.com/) to join him in a spoiler-filled discussion that covers every facet of the movie. Our trio reviews the film, cover the *all* the plot twists, the character arcs, how the film fits in with the rest of the Marvel movies, comics vs movies, and just about everything else to do with Tony's latest solo adventure. Not even the end of the show can't stop the discussion! Our theme music this episode is "20 Minutes of Oxygen" by Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, courtesy of Divine Industries. Oh my! Is there anyone more popular with geeks than George Takei? The RevCast doesn't think so. This is why co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel invited Tegan Hendrickson to discuss all things Takei. They look at his career, his sexuality and his re-invention of himself using social media. There's also a discussion about Deanna's crush on him when she was six. So sit back and practice your best Sulu impression as you listen to the podcast. It is a dark time for fandom. Six short months ago, many nerds were shocked by purchase of Luasfilm by Disney. This news gave some a sense of renewed hope for the Star Wars franchise. Others have cried out in terror, based on recent closures and cancelations of Lucasfilm properties. Now, in a secret base, Gary Mitchel has rounded up expert nerds Jessa Phillips, Shaun Rosado, Michael Falkner, and Tegan Hendrickson to discuss all the post-purchase events, put them in perspective, and then once more wildly speculate on where they think Star Wars can or should go from here.
