RevCast: from RevolutionSF.com (general)
Commentary, criticism and comedy about movies, TV and all corners of geeky genres and culture. A sci-fi convention in your pocket.

We assembled two Star Wars fans and two Harry Potter fans at the Hoover Library in Birmingham, Alabama's Sci-Fi & Fantasy Fest in front of a live audience for a panel called "Harry Potter vs Star Wars."

Some panels such as this would host an intelligent discussion about the differences and similarities in a reserved, intellectual atmosphere.

RevSF's Joe Crowe just had them fight.

Darth Maul vs. Prof. McGonnagal? Hermione vs. Mace Windu? Harry Potter vs. Chewbacca? Yes. All of these. Right here.

Eight characters from "Potter" vs. eight characters from "Star Wars," in a 16-person King of the Ring-style tournament voted on by audience members. The whole thing is silly, fun, and contains intelligent discussion about what would happen if Darth Vader fought dementors.

We had more fun than any Muggle or nerf-herder should be allowed.

Live in front of a fabulous studio audience at Magic City Con 2016 -- RevSF's Joe Crowe along with the Cosmic Potato podcast presented the most important discussion anyone can have.

Who would win between Star Trek and Star Wars characters?

We held a tournament where they fought it out, mano on Greedo, until only one remained. The audience decided the winners by discussion and yelling.

Listen as learned individuals conduct serious discussions about this stuff, as one must when one attends a sci-fi convention.

The adventures in the new Star Trek universe continue! But this time, without JJ at the helm, and with a script by fan favorite Simon Pegg! Will a story by one of our favorite geeks get classic Trek fans back on board? Or will the action focus of new director Justin Lin just make them furious? RevNews hosts Gary Mitchel & Tegan Hendrickson beam aboard Trek fans Kasey Ryan, Michael Falkner, and Sue Kisenwether to discuss these questions and many more!

Listen in as they talk about their thoughts on the reboot universe so far; the pain of Star Trek: Nemesis; how they felt after the first trailer; Kacey covers how we're an accident prone species; what (little) is known of the plot so far; the tragic loss of Anton Yelchin; the controversy over Sulu's orientation & why representation matters; how to honor Gene while not putting him on a pedestal; drawing the line at shenanigans when they involve BB-8; the gatekeeping of Rihanna & other female fans; their love for Idris Elba; the movies and shows they have to share with Kacey and their favorites of the Trek movies.

In 1985, DC Comics published the epic series CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, and ever since the repercussions have reverberated down over the years, inside and out of their published universe. Characters and worlds lived and died! A cycle of yearly mega-crossover events have became the norm. And what started as an attempt to streamline the DC Universe lead to more and more frayed bits and pieces requiring new clean-ups that caused even more issues.

And now, after the somewhat unsuccessful New 52, DC is pusing the cosmic reset button once more! This time, however, feels different. This new mega-event, titled REBIRTH, is under the watchful hand of legendary writer Geoff Johns, who's no stranger to breathing new life and excitement into characters that need a return to greatness.

To discuss the events that lead to this change, the story itself, and the repercusions of this new Universe Reset, RevNews host Gary Mitchel put out the call to Green Lantern expert Sean, The Rad Ranger, and the world's foremost Flash Fan Shaun Rosado! Listen as they take a (not-so) brief look at DC's previous major events; what makes event stories work, & what doesn't; how modern heroes can be seen as modern gods; REBIRTH as business & writing decision; Batman's belt, Superman's lack of red shorts & overall costume design theory; DC's ability to do legacy; what each of the main DC characters represent to readers; the big moment that brought all the feels; the meta side of the reveal of the big bad; a look at the Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern & Wonder Woman Rebirth issues; Shaun's Bette Midler reference; how everyone gets to be a Batman; Rad Ranger's fondness for 90's costumes; Shaun's message to DC about artists; and the upcoming comics they can't miss.

The RevNews coverage of all things Captain America: Civil War concludes! We came, we saw, we laughed and we cried! Oh, did our group of podcasters cry as the movie hit them hard, as the internet says, right in the feels. RevNews hosts Gary Mitchel & Tegan Hendrickson have reconvened with registered fans Mike Nelson, Ryan Guthrie and, Jennifer Hartshorn to see if the movie met their previously discussed expectations, or if it needs to be sent to its room (that may be an exaggeration).

Listen in as they talk about why previous delays weren't Tegan's fault; their general reactions to the movie; the capable hands of the Russo Brothers; what predictions they got right (and wrong); their trouble believing that was Howard Stark's car; Tony's deep need for therapy; their quibbles and the feels; Zemo's plan and if Mike was happy that Zemo wasn't Cobra Commandered; the deaths, more feels and the many needs for hugs; how they felt about all the characters; Bucky's Legolas moment; Tony's need for therapy; the incredible cuteness of Vision & Wanda; the redemption of Clint Barton; their need for a Black Panther movie right now; what Spidey brought to Team Tony; Zemo's vicory and need for another hug; Tegan's use of "Hobbiting" as a verb; the big airport fight; how the Russo brothers used our expectations against us in a fantastic way; the intensity & deep feels of the final fight; Bucky putting on a smile for Steve’s sake; #TeamBladder; and where they ranks it amongst the MCU movies so far.

The DC Cinematic Universe begins here! And it begins with the epic clash between their biggest heroes! Can Goyer and Snyder meet the challenge of making a movie that can not only face off against MARVEL, but fandom's mixed reactions to Man of Steel? RevNews hosts Gary Mitchel & Tegan Hendrickson call in Nathan Laws to round out their podcast league to discuss these issues and more, before and then after they watched the movie!

Tune in as the trinity discuss Snyder's strengths and weaknesses; who they wish had been cast as Batman (he'd done it before); if "fun" is a bad word to the DC/WB executives; the idea of DC as a movie & TV multiverse; the intrinsic qualities of Superman; how they like their Lex; and how Nathan takes Tegan's joy.

Then, after they've seen the movie, they cover what did work . . . and what didn't; the whole "Martha" thing; how this Batman was built & what was missing from him; Gary explains the glowy-guy who confused Tegan & Nathan; what they feel is the movie's fundamental flaw; Nathan discovers the movie's one moment of real depth; how this hardly speaking Superman is oddly fatalistic; Tegan's need to know why Perry doesn't fire Kent; why Moma deserves a good Aquaman movie; Luthor's lack of menace; the aftermath of the movie in both the fandom and financial areas; and how they ultimately feel about the movie.
