RevCast: from RevolutionSF.com
Science fiction news and commentary with insight and humor, plus some really terrific short stories.

It's guest-a-palooza this time on the Roundtable.  Joining regulars Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel are Van Allen Plexico, James Plamer and a very late to the party Joe Crowe.  Their topic of the discussion is John Carter, from the original novels to the upcoming Pixar movie, there is no part of this topic that isn't covered or uncovered, given the nakedness.  They also talk about their Weeks in Nerdliness and their favourite Nerd News moments.  There is even rapping!  What other podcast brings that to you?

Christmas has arrived, giving  Deanna Toxopeus and Scott Duschene a chance to look at what Hollywood hs brought us this year.  And someone must have been naughty, because there is not under our preverbial tree.  And much of what is there is coal.  Still, our crew are troopers.  They sort through what there is so that you can head to the cinema informed.  There is also the Week in Nerdliness and the Nerd News.

Well we're back with the much delayed, supersize edition of the Roundtable.  Deanna Toxopeus, Gary Mitchell, and Van Allen Plexico get together to discuss the late, much lamented Jos Whedon TV series.   They look at characters, episodes and run lots of lines while laughing.  A lot.  It is a veritable Whedonfest.

And the supersize of the episode allows for a return of the the Week in Nerdliness and the Nerd News.

Long time listeners know that our Podcast Queen, Deanna Toxopeus, loves Black Canary.  So for this supersized epsiode she rounded up Jennifer Ford (owner of the premier Black Canary website, Canary Noire), DC superfan Shaun Rosado (host of Shauncastic) and ubergeek Gary Mitchel to discuss Dinah Lance (who is the Black Canary).  And surprisingly, they spend very little time on the romance with Green Arrow.

Note: Due to the depth of the topic, there is no Nerd News and Week in Nerdliness this episode.  Again.

It was the podcast of fire.  The podcast of destruction.  The podcast we took back what was ours. It was the podcast of rebirth.  The podcast of great sadness.  The podcast of pain. And a podcast of joy. It was a new podcast. It was the end of podcasts.  It was the podcast everything changed. The podcast is the Roundtable.  The topic, Babylon 5.

Join Deanna Toxopeus, Gary Mitchell, Michael Emond, Kathleen David and Van Allen Plexico as they discuss all things B5.

Note: Due to the depth of the topic, there is no Nerd News and Week in Nerdliness this episode.  Again.

As Hallowe'en approaches, Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel look at the lamest thinggs in horror movies.  The discussion centres around the tropes that pop-up again and again in horror movies, the things that lazy writers, directors and producers rely on to tell their stories when they are out of original ideas.  Names are named and fingers are pointed as the two build a pretty solid list.  They also make time for the Week in Nerdliness and the Nerd News.

Guess who's 80 years young this year?  That's right, Leonard Nimoy!  So join Deanna Toxopeus, Gary Mitchel and Scott Duschene as they look at the career of this geek icon.  And while, it is Spock heavy, they also take time to look at his musical career (5 albums!), his photography career, his audio production company and his other acting.  They also examine his cultural impact as Spock.

In this very special edition of the Roundtable, our Podcast Queen Deanna Toxopeus gathers up a group of Twilight fans to discuss the series.  Stephen Granade, Umni Khan, KateParkinson and Rebecca Thompson look at the appeal of the series, its themes and, yes, even some of the problems with the series.  There is also a fascinating discussion on the female storytelling and the value our society places on female protagonists.

Given that this is a special episode, we have forgone the usual Week in Nerdliness and the Nerd News to spend more time discussing Twilight.

The Roundtable heads back to the cinema for October and finds a shocking lack of good (or bad) horror to make you scream and squirm. (Spoiler: But for some reason, there is Footloose.)  Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel sort through what is there, and let you know what to catch, and what to miss.  (Spoiler: miss Footloose)  In addition, there is  the Nerd News and the Week in Nerdliness, so it's not a total loss.  (Spoler: except for Footloose)

A reminder about our feedback address. revcast@revolutionsf.com . Tell us what you think about the Roundtable!  How important are horror movies to Hallowe'en?  (And how much do you hate the Footloose remake.)

P.S. After we taped this episode, Hollywood confessed that they had two more horror movies to send out.  I guess there was a pop-up horror planned all along.
