RevCast: from RevolutionSF.com
Science fiction news and commentary with insight and humor, plus some really terrific short stories.

The fall TV season has started, including the new DC show on the CW, spinning off from "Arrow" we have The Flash! And it hit us, pardon the expression, like a bolt of lightening! We enjoyed it so much that RevNews host Gary Mitchel had to gather together a batch of Flash Fans to discuss the pilot episode!

Joining Gary are Nathan Laws , Mark Finn and new RevNewsian Michael Bailey! Listen in as they talk all about the previous DC TV shows (and how Smallville was like X-Files: 90210); DC's GrimDark history and how the Flash is counter-programming to "Arrow"; the escalation of superpowers and what audiences will accept; the panel's pleading for Grodd; Gary's insistence on calling the West family the Allen family; their love of Jesse Martin; the seemingly contractual "CW Moments"; their thoughts on the 90's series; Gary's head either imploding or exploding over the end scene; the flowing of Mantears; a sing-a-long of the Metamorpho theme and cries of "It's awesome and on my phone!"; and why the Flash should never be flocked.

In Part 2 of our look at the upcoming television season, our co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel turn to the returning shows. Along with Tegan Hendrickson and Nathan Laws, they discuss which returning shows they are excited about and which they've never even heard of. Revelations this episode inlude Ollie being a bike, and whether or not Ward deservs a redemption arc.  Deanna also links the beautiful Tomorrow People living in a subway station to the Telepaths living in the basement of Babylon 5. So sit back and enjoy our discussion.

It's Fall and that means the networks are rolling out the new shows. In part one of our Fall TV Prieview, our co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel are joined by Tegan Hendrickson and Nathan Laws to look at the good and the bad of what Hollywood has to offer. In this episode our team figures out the CW cancellation formula and Deanna specualtes on the first Fox show to go. Gary also reveals that he would watch a Zombie Shartopusnado movie, which leads Deanna to declare that Gary's what's wrong with TV.

Dragon Con 2014 has come and gone. And once more RevCast Co-host Gary Mitchel corralled some of our favorite people into doing a LIVE episode of the RevCast! Joining him for this special event are Michael Falkner, Sue Kisenwether, Jessa Phillips and around the half-way mark the one and only Tegan Hendrickson

This year, instead of just talking about the con, which they do spend a little time discussing, Gary picked a topic of discussion, the just recently aired first episode of Capaldi's run of Doctor Who, "Deep Breath"! Listen in as they talk all about the plot, the characters, what they liked (Capaldi's attack eyebrows), didn't like (how Jenny is treated this episode by Vastra); Sue's excellent observation of The Doctor as the Audience vs Clara as the Audience; cries of "MOFFAT!!!"; their thoughts on pandering to the fans; Sue & Gary agreeing on a theory about "Time of the Doctor" and how Capaldi should have appeared in it; their thoughts on all the modern companions; special guest voices; and how they feel about the future of the season.

It's September, and there is litterally NOTHING in the theaters for genre fans.  These slim pickings lead to some interesting recommnedations from our co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel and RevCast MVP Tegan Hendrickson. But never fear RevCast fans, it is not all knashing of teeth and whining. There is a discussion of Lord Grantham’s Ass and Tegan and Gary start naming the Starks as if they were Spice Girls. There is also a bankable idea about Expendables with ACTORS. So bankable, that Deanna volunteers for a special job on set to keep the costs down so the movie can get made.

Did you know that RevolutionSF co-founder Joe Crowe and RevCast co-host Gary Mitchel are in charge of the American Sci-Fi Classics track at DragonCon?  As part of this, they run a panel called Stump the Geeks. This panel involves ridiculous questions, questionable prizes and assaults with Hulk perfume. And Joe taped the 2013 edition and has provided it here for your listening pleasure. There is a Greatest American Hero signalong, speculation about Mansquito vs the taser and Jabba sings theme songs. You don't know what you are missing!

It's August and Hollywood has blessed us with a popcorn bucket full of movies.  So many, in fact, that this episode has to be broken into two parts.  In this part, our hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel are joined by Tegan HendricksonMichael Falkner and Nathan Laws to discuss the movies in the second half of the month. This part reveals why women watched action movies in the 80s and Deanna freaks Gary out.

Robin Williams's passing hit a lot of us hard. Gary Mitchel is joined fist by Tegan Hendrickson and Michael Falkner, then later by Dan Haight to talk about Robin's career as well as which of his roles, performance and routines were their favourites. They also look at Robin's influence and the fact that he was, apparently, a huge geek. Finally, they spend some time sharing some of the amazing stories about Robin's generosity of spirit that have emerged since his passing.

In case you missed it, Batgirl recently got a new uniform.  This set our minds thinking about all the issues surrounding superhero uniforms.  Our co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mithel discuss the pros and cons with Tegan Hendrickson and Michael Emond. As per usual, it is a wide ranging discussion, including the little known fact that Dr. Manhattan's, ahem, package is patriotic.
