RevCast: from RevolutionSF.com
Science fiction news and commentary with insight and humor, plus some really terrific short stories.

The 80s was a special time.  TV was dominated by the action shows, where the men saved orhanages from Columbian drug lords and corrupt businessmen, usually while driving a cool vehicle.  Our co-hosts, Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel, having watched more than their fair share of these shows, gathered up some other action afitionadoes. Joining them on the trip down memory lane are Nathan Laws and Dan Haight.  Also included is a special visit from Joe Crowe! They discuss the greatest contribution to cinema from the 80s, the musical montage, along with Gary's obsession with breakfast ceral and the whole genre being a Robin Hood metaphor.

It's now official! MARVEL has released their slate of the movies for Phase Three! 10 movies! Three years! THANOS! The introduction of Black Panther and Captain Marvel! This comes on the heels of DC's announcing their movie plans for the Justice League, Wonder Woman, and more through 2020, Fox's merry mutant movies and the ongoing tribulations at Sony with the Spider-Man series. All in all, there's a lot to discuss, unpack and get excited about here. So RevNews host Gary Mitchel has called in comics and movie experts Nathan Laws, Tegan Hendrickson and Michael Falkner to go over this impressive schedule of spandex-clad films!

Listen in as they talk all about MARVEL's broadening their roster vs giving existing characters new movies; DC's conservative mindset vs MARVEL's fan-based announcements; Gary's adventures in tooth removal and medication; how if you announce Hiddleston, the Tumblr will be there; which of the movies really excite them; details on the Sony/MARVEL Spider-Man situation; how Kevin Feige is MARVEL's secret weapon for success; MARVEL's integrated universe vs DC's multiverse; Tegan's position on Cumberbatch being in all of the things; their squee over the Age of Ultron trailer and the bonus scene; the reason Nathan is a fan of Tegan; and MARVEL's success at making each movie feel different, and not just "another super-hero movie"

It is hard to believe, but the movie Krull came out 30 years ago.  In this episode from the vaults, co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel sit down with Nathan Laws to discuss the cult classic in all it's cheesy glory. The three come to the conclusion that Krull is like your first knitting poject. There is also a discussion of the Doctor Who effect on genre film making and Barry Bostwick in Lycra! Yes, Lycra.

You have been warned.

RevCast Listeners

In episode 237, a bit of audio was left in the podcast that was never meant to be public on the web.  This was a huge mistake made solely by me, Deanna Toxopeus, the RevCast producer and co-host. This mistake hurt and embarrassed several RevCast contributors. And for that mistake, I sincerely apologize.  I am not someone who deliberately sets out to hurt people.  Nor do I ever want to be.

But that being said, I still made a grievous error, one that I am deeply ashamed of and sorry for. If I could take it back, I would.  But I can’t. I can only do better in the future.

Again, my apologies to RevolutionSF, the RevCast contributors and to you, our listeners.  I am so sorry.

The fall TV season has started, including the new DC show on the CW, spinning off from "Arrow" we have The Flash! And it hit us, pardon the expression, like a bolt of lightening! We enjoyed it so much that RevNews host Gary Mitchel had to gather together a batch of Flash Fans to discuss the pilot episode!

Joining Gary are Nathan Laws , Mark Finn and new RevNewsian Michael Bailey! Listen in as they talk all about the previous DC TV shows (and how Smallville was like X-Files: 90210); DC's GrimDark history and how the Flash is counter-programming to "Arrow"; the escalation of superpowers and what audiences will accept; the panel's pleading for Grodd; Gary's insistence on calling the West family the Allen family; their love of Jesse Martin; the seemingly contractual "CW Moments"; their thoughts on the 90's series; Gary's head either imploding or exploding over the end scene; the flowing of Mantears; a sing-a-long of the Metamorpho theme and cries of "It's awesome and on my phone!"; and why the Flash should never be flocked.

In part one of our Fall TV Prieview, our co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel are joined by Tegan Hendrickson and Nathan Laws to look at the good and the bad of what Hollywood has to offer. In this episode our team figures out the CW cancellation formula and Deanna specualtes on the first Fox show to go. Dragon Con 2014 has come and gone. And once more RevCast Co-host Gary Mitchel corralled some of our favorite people into doing a LIVE episode of the RevCast! Joining him for this special event are Michael Falkner, Sue Kisenwether, Jessa Phillips and around the half-way mark the one and only Tegan Hendrickson

This year, instead of just talking about the con, which they do spend a little time discussing, Gary picked a topic of discussion, the just recently aired first episode of Capaldi's run of Doctor Who, "Deep Breath"! Listen in as they talk all about the plot, the characters, what they liked (Capaldi's attack eyebrows), didn't like (how Jenny is treated this episode by Vastra); Sue's excellent observation of The Doctor as the Audience vs Clara as the Audience; cries of "MOFFAT!!!"; their thoughts on pandering to the fans; Sue & Gary agreeing on a theory about "Time of the Doctor" and how Capaldi should have appeared in it; their thoughts on all the modern companions; special guest voices; and how they feel about the future of the season.

It's September, and there is litterally NOTHING in the theaters for genre fans.  These slim pickings lead to some interesting recommnedations from our co-hosts Deanna Toxopeus and Gary Mitchel and RevCast MVP Tegan Hendrickson. But never fear RevCast fans, it is not all knashing of teeth and whining. There is a discussion of Lord Grantham’s Ass and Tegan and Gary start naming the Starks as if they were Spice Girls. There is also a bankable idea about Expendables with ACTORS. So bankable, that Deanna volunteers for a special job on set to keep the costs down so the movie can get made.
