RevCast: from RevolutionSF.com
Commentary, criticism and comedy about movies, TV and all corners of geeky genres and culture. A sci-fi convention in your pocket.

Live from DragonCon 2016: On the American Sci-Fi Classic track, RevSF's Joe Crowe and Gary Mitchel put on a weekend of ape-tastic fun, even when they are not talking about Planet of the Apes.

But in this case, they are! Take a deep dive into the third Planet of the Apes movie from 1971 (and the only one with Ricardo Montalban, to our everlasting regret.)

BABY MILO, YOU GUYS.

RevSF pals in this live episode include Andrew Gaska, writer of Planet of the Apes books and stories and consultant for 20th Century Fox. Check him out at BLAM! Ventures.

Join Joe, Gary, and the Classic Track Irregulars at DragonCon on Labor Day weekend and all year round on the FacBoo.

In this special edition of the RevCast, Joe Crowe interviews Tami Stronach, the Childlike Empress from the 1984 classic fantasy flick, The Neverending Story.

I know! Falcor! Atreyu! That movie is the best.

Joe called her the "Childlike Princess" in the intro. Smooth move, Ex-Lax.

Anyways.

Today you can find Ms. Stronach at Paper Canoe Company, where she and her husband Greg are making family-friendly music and plays. Their mission: Paper Canoe creates stories that make kids feel like grown ups and make grownups feel like kids. Check out her song "Beanstalk Jack" at the link.

2016 was a rough year for all of us, even here are the RevCast/RevNews. Deanna, Tegan and Gary have been away for a while, but now they're back! Although we wish it was under better circumstances.

First up, our crew covers why they've been away, and then our hosts for this RevNews are joined by KC Ryan and Sue K for a look back at the life and career of the one and only Carrie Fisher, who we lost at the end of the year.

Listen in as they discuss crying all the tears; what Leia means to them; Carrie's fights against agism, the Hollywood system, & for mental health awareness; her carrer as a writer and script doctor; our love of her dog's twitter; her interactions with the fans; how we should have had her around longer; how the modern era of the internet and Twitter let us know our icons better, but also means their loss hurts more; the impact of Star Wars on pop culture & their lives; Carrie's work outside Star Wars & how she'll be memorialized; the infamous bikini;how we should share our stories & love with the people who inspire us before they're gone, and our our favorite Carrie Leia memories.

We assembled two Star Wars fans and two Harry Potter fans at the Hoover Library in Birmingham, Alabama's Sci-Fi & Fantasy Fest in front of a live audience for a panel called "Harry Potter vs Star Wars."

Some panels such as this would host an intelligent discussion about the differences and similarities in a reserved, intellectual atmosphere.

RevSF's Joe Crowe just had them fight.

Darth Maul vs. Prof. McGonnagal? Hermione vs. Mace Windu? Harry Potter vs. Chewbacca? Yes. All of these. Right here.

Eight characters from "Potter" vs. eight characters from "Star Wars," in a 16-person King of the Ring-style tournament voted on by audience members. The whole thing is silly, fun, and contains intelligent discussion about what would happen if Darth Vader fought dementors.

We had more fun than any Muggle or nerf-herder should be allowed.

Live in front of a fabulous studio audience at Magic City Con 2016 -- RevSF's Joe Crowe along with the Cosmic Potato podcast presented the most important discussion anyone can have.

Who would win between Star Trek and Star Wars characters?

We held a tournament where they fought it out, mano on Greedo, until only one remained. The audience decided the winners by discussion and yelling.

Listen as learned individuals conduct serious discussions about this stuff, as one must when one attends a sci-fi convention.

The adventures in the new Star Trek universe continue! But this time, without JJ at the helm, and with a script by fan favorite Simon Pegg! Will a story by one of our favorite geeks get classic Trek fans back on board? Or will the action focus of new director Justin Lin just make them furious? RevNews hosts Gary Mitchel & Tegan Hendrickson beam aboard Trek fans Kasey Ryan, Michael Falkner, and Sue Kisenwether to discuss these questions and many more!

Listen in as they talk about their thoughts on the reboot universe so far; the pain of Star Trek: Nemesis; how they felt after the first trailer; Kacey covers how we're an accident prone species; what (little) is known of the plot so far; the tragic loss of Anton Yelchin; the controversy over Sulu's orientation & why representation matters; how to honor Gene while not putting him on a pedestal; drawing the line at shenanigans when they involve BB-8; the gatekeeping of Rihanna & other female fans; their love for Idris Elba; the movies and shows they have to share with Kacey and their favorites of the Trek movies.

Greetings, RevFans. We present to you another one of our RevNews podcasts that was thought to be lost in the midst of Gary's cross-country move! We found it in the box with the good silverware. Season two may be streaming (and awesome), but please join us for a look back!

It's time to listen to the best podcasting avocados of RevolutionSF's kitchen, Tegan Hendrickson, Ryan Guthrie, Nathan Laws, and Gary Mitchel. It's like an epic hallway scene for your ears as we talk about the characters, plot, and cinemotagraphy in one unbroken take of awesome. It's so much pulse-pounding thrill-a-minute discussing that you may need to call your lawyer because you have whiplash. So sit down, take a listen, and stare at your favorite painting as we take you into a world on fire. Excelsior!

In 1985, DC Comics published the epic series CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, and ever since the repercussions have reverberated down over the years, inside and out of their published universe. Characters and worlds lived and died! A cycle of yearly mega-crossover events have became the norm. And what started as an attempt to streamline the DC Universe lead to more and more frayed bits and pieces requiring new clean-ups that caused even more issues.

And now, after the somewhat unsuccessful New 52, DC is pusing the cosmic reset button once more! This time, however, feels different. This new mega-event, titled REBIRTH, is under the watchful hand of legendary writer Geoff Johns, who's no stranger to breathing new life and excitement into characters that need a return to greatness.

To discuss the events that lead to this change, the story itself, and the repercusions of this new Universe Reset, RevNews host Gary Mitchel put out the call to Green Lantern expert Sean, The Rad Ranger, and the world's foremost Flash Fan Shaun Rosado! Listen as they take a (not-so) brief look at DC's previous major events; what makes event stories work, & what doesn't; how modern heroes can be seen as modern gods; REBIRTH as business & writing decision; Batman's belt, Superman's lack of red shorts & overall costume design theory; DC's ability to do legacy; what each of the main DC characters represent to readers; the big moment that brought all the feels; the meta side of the reveal of the big bad; a look at the Superman, Batman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern & Wonder Woman Rebirth issues; Shaun's Bette Midler reference; how everyone gets to be a Batman; Rad Ranger's fondness for 90's costumes; Shaun's message to DC about artists; and the upcoming comics they can't miss.
